Palazzo Strozzi
Piazza Strozzi

The palazzo was owned by the original family until 28 May 1937, when Prince Roberto sold it to the Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni [National Insurance Institute].
Restoration work began and scaffolding was erected in the autumn of that year. Shortly afterwards, however, to ensure that the city "looked its best" for Hitler and Mussolini, the scaffolding was taken down at great expense because the motorcade was due to wend its way to the Oltrarno neighbourhood across the river via Via Strozzi and Via Tornabuoni. On 9 May 1938 the palazzo is decorated with "the flags of the ancient nobility and guilds in its wonderful wrought-iron torch-holders" and with yellow banners bearing the red moons of the Strozzi family crest. Restoration was completed with the inauguration of an Exhibition of Tuscan 16th Century Art on 27 April 1940.
